Gone are the days when the whole IT industry was talking about Web 2.0, the power of interactivity, collaboration and crowd sourcing. In a similar manner, industry experts explained the concept of Enterprise 2.0 as the use of emergent social software platforms by companies to interact with their potential customers, partners and other relevant stakeholders. Many large companies across the globe reported increased connectivity, enhanced knowledge sharing and improved innovations because of adapting to Enterprise 2.0.

Slowly the industry started moving towards collaborative production or co-creation wherein, the consumers or buyers are involved in the process of ideation and production. With the advent of mobile technologies and applications, customers are utilizing their mobile devices like iPads, smartphones etc. in an extensive manner for every possible activity related to their work and life. Since the applications are cloud-based and the services are subscription based, lots of businesses are enhancing their operational style through adapting innovative approaches and encouraging a mobile workforce.

A mobile workforce becomes efficient with three important things.

First is Accessibility. Hosted in the cloud, all required tools and relevant data are to be made accessible to the employees who use various thin clients. In the modern era, examples of thin clients include smartphones, tablets, personal digital assistants, digital diaries, laptops etc. The application should be compatible with different thin clients and accessibility should be at ease.

Second important factor is Personalization. It enables employees to filter business critical data that can be accessed through thin clients. To be precise, an employee involved in field sales can customize the mobile application dashboard to get information about the targets, client meetings for the day, key issues to be addressed, location of the clients and data specific to the industry sector in which the client operates in.

The last one is Durability. The application hosted in the cloud should be able to withstand requests from lot of thin clients simultaneously. It should be able to cater relevant data and information to the mobile workforce consistently without downtime.

Enterprise 3.0 is termed to be a cultural shift in the way businesses function. It enables mobile workforce lot of freedom and empowers them to make decisions on the go.
