RODE is an Appreciating Asset!

Is cloud computing merely a cookie cutter approach to acquiring or renovating your IT assets? Will the results of migration to the cloud match a cookie cutter effort at IT automation? Is the experience so scaled down and standardized, that solutions to your business problems are bound by the standard deliveries that the cutter enables? Let’s take a minute to analyze this.

A cookie cutter approach is often associated with the economic concept of scale and standardization. That is, every customer gets the same product at same price. The options are limited. Readymade garments, for instance, are made available in standard sizes. Brands add horizontal attributes such as quality checks, wrinkle free nature, etc. to usher in brand distinction. No one would buy a shirt that has a button or a sleeve missing. Colors, choice of the material, thickness of material etc. (horizontal attributes – common to all garments) remain options.

Consider Ramco's ERP on the cloud, Ramco OnDemand ERP (RODE). If it didn’t carry capabilities to automate fundamental business processes such as sales, accounting and purchase it wouldn’t be of any value as would go against the fundamental point in having an ERP – which is to present an integrated picture of the business. Missing any of these processes would be akin to buying a shirt with a missing vertical attribute – a missing sleeve, say.

Let us assume that you bought a formal shirt and suddenly find that you have to roll up your sleeves for work. And so you roll up your sleeve and it keeps slipping back, leaving wishing for more. You wish your shirt would have a button sewed on your sleeve near the elbow with a looping anchor so that you may neatly fold up your sleeve and anchor it as well. In a pure cookie cutter approach, you wouldn’t have this flex… Once the garment is made, it stays the way it is and any attempt to tailor it further only means a compromise on aesthetics. Adding a button near the elbow would mean adding a flat terrain in the fabric, facing outward, so that the button may sit on rather than appear perched on ironed out edge, awkwardly.

With RODE, Ramco has given users the ability to extend the fabric and shape it suit their business. Extension Kits let users ideate and shape solutions in a ‘sand box’ before integrating with the whole. This mode integration is no different than how the rest of the ERP components are sewed together.

To simplify migration, you may choose to harness RODE’s standard attributes making it a cookie cutter approach. Given its growing features, the workflow configurability, business rules based execution, extension kits, automatic upgrades – all of which you may choose to harness later - it is actually an asset that grows in value!
