For companies that are trying to smoothen their processes and ensure efficiency in operations, ERP is one of the best solutions. In the new millennium, many businesses have realized the importance of having a centralized system to monitor and manage all their operations. This led to the tremendous growth of ERP and new trends have started emerging in the market.

[1] ERP segmentation – Earlier, ERP was considered as part of IT solutions. Since ERP focuses on streamlining different processes and help administration, it has been recognized as a separate market segment. Many large businesses have dedicated teams to maintain their ERP package.

[2] Focus on Verticals – These days, ERP vendors are focusing more and more in providing niche solutions for their clients. Vendors suggest having a two-tier implementation of the ERP package – an administrative ERP solution centrally installed at business headquarters that is fed by separate ERP implementations in its divisions, branches or departments. This kind of implementation has given birth to many new vertical based ERP packages.

[3] Cloud based ERP – There has been tremendous growth on cloud-based technology in the last 5 years.. Companies like Ramco Systems are helping organizations tackle their evolving needs by providing OnDemand ERP solutions based on Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model. In this model, businesses have the advantage of paying only for their usage.

[4] Mobile ERP–Mobile ERP is almost similar to cloud based ERP. Here, the ERP software is hosted on the cloud. Users can access it using thin clients like iPads, smartphones etc.

[5] Criticality of CRM & BI – Due to the economic downturn, companies are focusing more on reducing their budgets. By automating and integrating CRM applications, companies can make their sales and customer service functions run effectively and efficiently. In the same manner, ensuring the availability of critical data across relevant departments along with a suitable decision support system, improves the decision making process across departments. Thus many ERP vendors are serving their customers with critical CRM and BI applications.
