During the 1st industrial revolution, the invention of machine that were powered by steam engines assisted factory workers in production of goods. Making “Mass Production possible”, thereby offering consumers more choices at lower prices.

The 2nd industrial revolution, otherwise known as the 'Technology Revolution,' continued to build itself from the 1st industrial revolution. Paving the way for more Automation as new machines and power source were invented, making Production of good/products faster and far efficient compared to its previous generation and cheaper.

In the 3rd industrial revolution, we witnessed the emergence of electronic devices that were powered by transistor and microprocessors. This revolution gave rise to the era of high-level automation (Machine and process) and with the increased use of electronic devices such as digital computers, this paved the way for more efficient automations. ERP solutions were developed to address silo-based system and to provide financial visibility and one source of truth.

Today we are again standing on another brink of new era of technology revolution. Just like the other industrial revolution this 4th Industrial revolution is well on the way to re-develop and re-engineer the world using the same existing technology. With the birth of micro digital computers and the internet, new technologies such an IoT, Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and probably block-chain will again change the way we do things and eventually re-shape our future.

Digital Transformation

Companies are now shifting their strategy to initiatives that can leverage this new technology to make them customer-centric and to provide valuable operational data that would help them make better and more intelligent decisions. Once a top priority for early adopters and cutting-edge enterprise, digital transformation has now become a top priority to many organizations. In fact, according to a recent survey 77% of executive highly agree that the evolution towards a REAL-TIME ECONOMY will have a major impact on their business and that in the next 3 years the top priority for investment will be improving their digital presence, that would enable them to have that competitive differentiation.

Below-mentioned points are considered the major game changer in their digital transformation:

Data-Driven Marketing: Engaging people at the right time where it makes more sense.

Information Management: Providing Management the right information at the right time for the right process.

Customer Service:  To provide accurate and timely information to the clients.

This survey also indicate that digital transformation is no longer viewed merely as an experiment or as one-off-innovation projects but a essential part of their growth and value strategy.

'Detect & Repair' to 'Predict & Prevent'

Today most industry are eagerly exploring digital tools that would provide Real-time valuable data that can lead to actionable insight to their operations. With the new wave of deep learning technique's, artificial intelligence is living up to its expectation of mimicking the perception, reasoning, learning and problem solving. Together with the advancement of IoT and Big Data, the future will soon require a digital always-connected network. Powered by sensors that can collect and share vital data about every shipment and fleet. This will smooth the flow of goods and provide logistics companies with valuable information that will help them make better and more intelligent decision.

Fleet monitoring system aided with IoT devices can track real time status of your fleet such as actual locations, fuel consumption, determine idle time and even geo-fencing violations, but that is just half of the story, with machine learning built-in you can predicatively maintain vehicles and optimize logistics, reduce fuel consumption and understand driver behaviors. With Big Data and Artificial Intelligence, you can map out potential routes based on traffic, determine the highest percentage of accidents, Container hijack and auto damages - all while increasing REAL-TIME service delivery and improving customer satisfaction, transforming the logistic industry from a 'DETECT & REPAIR' to 'PREDICT & PREVENT.'

Smart Phones

But despite that there are many technology out there that can help you in your digital transformation, one type of solution stands out as the most efficient and cost-effective; Smart phones. In the Past, Cellular technologies were limited due to inadequate coverage area, High data plan cost and limited battery life. But as this technology improves, it offers an unparalleled level of global ubiquity, performance, and cost-effectiveness, making it the superior choice for logistics industry.

Modern e-commerce and Transportation Manager today are already enjoying the many benefits of a cellular-based visibility solutions. and with future advances in technology and infrastructure this benefit will only continue to grow. Smart phones will be the foundation of an effective way in providing end-to-end visibility over customers, clients and principles. This Will also enhance decision making, productivity, lower costs, and optimize customer experience.

Ultimately, the benefits would boil down to better customer experience. Customer expects that when they order a product it will arrive on time and undamaged. With the use of this new technologies Logistic companies can harvest real time data to understand the how and why.

End-to-End visibility enable the shipper to deliver to that expectations.
